#tonightsbill: Lippy

A couple weeks ago I got to see a very spooky play.  Based on true events, Lippy centers around the bazar suicide pact of 4 Irish women.

Lippy is unlike any play I have ever seen. It was almost more of a ballet than play.  The four central women have very little dialogue, and instead depict the story of their final days through their physical interactions.

The play actually starts off as a very funny faux talk back for a another show.  We never learn its title, but through the questions at the talk back we learn that the actor being interviewed is a lip reader and actually worked on the investigation into the deaths of these four women. The lip reader, perhaps driven by his guilt at not being able to solve the women's mystery,  then continues to walk us through the play helping us to try and work through it ourselves.

While difficult to describe as a whole, I have to say how much I admire the actors.  The amount of focus and internal specificity it must take to execute this piece is simply incredible.  They made you feel their lethargy and lack of cohesive thought without speaking a word.

Though this production finished its run Nov 2, I advise you to check it out if you are ever given the opportunity.  I am sure it would be completely different, but equally as curious. -xo Sydney
