Show Up!
I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about what I believe, in life, in business, and one of the things I keep coming back to is this, "I believe in showing up and being Yourself." It sounds so simple, right? But how many of us can say we show up in our lives every day? That we wake up and make the choice to live life in a conscious way? I'll admit I don't.
So tell me this. How in your life have you ever been served by hiding your light under a bushel, by attempting to be someone else? Whether you're emulating an actual person or putting on some fictionalized version of yourself?
In truth, the good, bad, or the ugly of who you are in this moment is better. Though you may not be exactly who, or where, you thought you'd be in life by this point, whatever you're trying to cover up or deny is part of you and by deceiving the world, by hiding that piece of yourself, the "good parts" of you become a lie as well, because they're not fully informed by your whole. Because you are whole.
Speaking of holes. I couldn't have dug myself out of the hole I was in 2 years ago if I hadn't been brutally honest with myself and accepted the whole self I was then. Fears, insecurities, failures and all. The key to that work is simply showing up.
When I'm struggling to show up for myself I often turn to the Patron Saint of Vulnerability, Brene Brown for this gentle reminder, "Vulnerability is the best measure of courage. The willingness to show up and let ourselves be fully heard and seen and known."
Showing up doesn't mean you're perfect. It doesn't mean you'll be your most authentic and rockin' self all day every day. It means you've said, "This is who I am today. I'm here for the journey and the opportunity to change." Because we will all change.
I listened to a podcast yesterday where Julianne Hough said, "When someone says you've changed you should say thank you!" AH! What a wonderful statement and permission slip to own your journey, no matter its trajectory.
Show up! Be more of who you are!! The world needs more of you!!! Yes, you! Your voice, your smile, your thoughts, you're the only person on this planet with your unique combination of traits and abilities and we're all dying to meet you. - xo Sydney
